European Championship Verbier

The European Championship in Verbier, Switzerland, was an exhilarating challenge set against the stunning backdrop of the Swiss Alps. The half-marathon, which wound its way up the steep ski slopes and presented numerous tough obstacles, was not for the faint-hearted. As I tackled the gruelling course, the competition proved fierce, pushing me to my limits. Despite the difficulty, the breathtaking views of Verbier’s majestic scenery provided moments of awe and inspiration. The first half of the ascent went smoothly, and I even reached the top checkpoint in 24th position. However, as I began the descent down the steep black ski slope, my knee began to ache. Faced with the risk of injury, I made the difficult decision to prioritise my long-term health over pushing through the race. Though it was disappointing not to finish as I had hoped, I knew that preserving my well-being was the right choice in the end. Unfortunately, after this race and MMR, which proved three partial ruptures of my meniscus on both knees, I have decided I will not continue with OCR races with extreme descending.
